🛤️ Welcome to Road Opening
Estimated Study Time: 6 Hours
Potential Ritual Duration: 3 to 7 Days
This lesson is quite comprehensive. While I’ve assigned approximately six hours to read, absorb, and reflect on the material, the truth is—if you decide to engage with the spellwork fully—it may take several days to complete. Some of the candle rituals require daily attention, while others call for follow-up work based on how the energy moves and how the spiritual signs unfold.
In the case study included, we go deep into a specific and emotionally charged situation involving a love reunion. You’ll learn how to approach this kind of block from both a magical and practical perspective, and how to read the wax remains to assess progress and determine your next move.
Following that, you’ll find a wide range of spell options, techniques, and correspondences for Road Opening work. It can feel like a lot at first—but do not worry. My personal recommendation is this:
👉 If you can complete even one full Road Opening ritual from this lesson, you’ve taken a powerful step forward.
Road opening is a foundational practice in spiritual work. At some point or another, nearly every magical goal will hit a moment where the roads feel blocked. This lesson is your toolkit for those times.
If you have any questions along the way, myself or someone from the teaching team will be here to help guide you. Don’t hesitate to reach out, share your results, or ask for clarification.
Let’s clear the path ahead together.
🪔 WHAT IS ROAD OPENING?
What is Road Opening?
In the practice of Hoodoo and African American conjure traditions, Road Opening refers to a specific type of spellwork used to eliminate spiritual, emotional, physical, and circumstantial blockages that prevent someone from progressing in their goals. Whether the issue is blocked money, stagnant love life, missed travel opportunities, or internal fear, Road Opening is often the first spiritual step taken before deeper spellwork is performed.
This work is not just about banishing negativity—it’s about actively inviting flow, access, and momentum.
We use road opening magic when you or a client says things like:
-
“I feel stuck.”
-
“I keep running into delays or resistance.”
-
“No matter what I do, things just won’t move forward.”
-
“There’s always something getting in the way.”
Road opening can target physical, emotional, spiritual, or environmental obstacles—including family pressure, money problems, legal delays, weather, mental fog, and energetic blocks from past trauma or fear.
Historical Context:
Road Opening spells in Hoodoo draw from a blend of African diasporic magic, European folk tradition, and Indigenous American influence. Symbolism from crossroads, open doors, and traveling spirits are central. The crossroads in particular is a sacred space in Hoodoo, representing a meeting point of energies and decisions.
Herbs like Abre Camino and curios such as old keys or crossroads dirt have been used by rootworkers for over a century to shift circumstances quickly and decisively. However, we’re going to look into some of the correspondences below, and you will notice that not all of them are just based on folk magic principles. We have sprinkled some witchcraft principles into the workings now. And that is totally okay because Hoodoo is about taking what you can from your immediate environment and making it something magical.
✴️ Correspondences for Road Opening Work
In Hoodoo and other forms of folk and rootwork, correspondences are the tangible and spiritual keys that link your intention to manifestation. Every herb, curio, psalm, planetary hour, and root has a spiritual purpose and a vibrational match. When it comes to road opening, the goal is to align yourself with energies of momentum, clarity, divine opportunity, and flow.
🌿 Herbs and Roots for Road Opening
These are more than ingredients—they are spiritual allies. Each brings its own type of motion, strength, or key to unlocking the next chapter.
✧ Abre Camino (“Road Opener”)
A must-have herb in any road opening work. It is traditionally used in baths, oils, and candle dressing. This herb pushes through spiritual debris, delays, and stagnation, making it ideal for when someone feels blocked in life, love, or money.
-
Use in: mojo bags, spiritual floor washes, cleansing baths
-
Best paired with: Lemongrass and High John the Conqueror for strength and opportunity
✧ Lemongrass
Energetically cleansing and bright. Lemongrass clears the mind, opens pathways in relationships, and drives away confusion. It is also associated with Mercury and is perfect for spiritual momentum.
-
Use in: oil blends, cleansing teas (external only), and petitions
-
Great when moving forward from heartbreak, job stagnation, or emotional fog
✧ Ginger Root
Fiery and fast. Ginger acts as a spiritual accelerant. It can heat up sluggish situations and increase the speed of manifestation. Be careful—its energy is direct and powerful.
-
Use in: powders, candle dressing, quick manifestation spells
-
Ideal for: travel delays, stagnant communication, or slow results
✧ High John the Conqueror Root
A classic root for commanding personal power. While not a traditional road opener, it gives the spell backbone and helps you conquer what stands in the way.
-
Use in: dressing candles or wearing as a talisman
-
Especially effective when obstacles involve control, status, or authority
✧ Calamus Root
For influencing people and situations to move in your favor. Use it to “bend the road” your way.
These herbs can be used in:
-
Oils
-
Powders
-
Mojo bags
-
Floor washes
-
Candle dressing
-
Spiritual baths
🔥 Candle Colors
-
Orange: traditional road opener color (action, energy, dynamic change)
-
White: clarity, purity, universal substitute
-
Yellow: success, favorable communication, joy
-
Blue: peace, calming stormy weather (emotional and literal)
🧿 Spiritual Curios and Talismans
Road opening work often includes symbolic items that carry energetic meaning.
✧ Crossroads Dirt
Collected respectfully from a literal crossroads, this represents the space where all options are possible. It is used to break through indecision and summon powerful choices and spirits of transition.
-
Use: sprinkle around candles or in mojo bags for direction
✧ Old Keys
Keys represent access, permission, and spiritual unlocking. A rusted key tied to your petition or candle adds weight to your command.
-
Use: in charm bags, with binding twine, or placed under your pillow after spellwork
✧ Open Door Symbols
These can include door charms, brass hinges, or drawn images of gates parting. Anything that represents “passage” can be used to activate the subconscious and spirit world alike.
🔮 Types of Work to Create
All these ingredients can be used to create:
-
Road Opening Oils: Steep herbs in carrier oil, strain, and use to anoint candles and petitions
-
Spiritual Baths and Washes: Simmer the herbs and strain for use in personal cleansings or to mop your floors and thresholds
-
Charms and Mojo Bags: Combine herbs and curios in a red or yellow flannel pouch to carry with you during spells or travel
-
Dressed Candles: Use figure or pillar candles dressed in oil and herbs for a focused spell
🌠 Astrological Considerations
Timing matters. You can amplify the strength of your road opening work by aligning with the cosmos.
✧ Best Day: Wednesday
Ruled by Mercury, the planet of roads, messages, commerce, and movement. It governs transitions, contracts, and travel.
-
If you are opening communication, planning a trip, launching something, or breaking out of delay, Wednesday is your day.
✧ Planetary Hour of Mercury
Working during Mercury’s hour (calculated based on sunrise and sunset) adds speed and spiritual connectivity. It’s like placing your spell on a spiritual freeway.
✧ Moon Phases
-
Waxing Moon: Ideal for drawing in movement, opportunity, and clarity
-
New Moon: Good for fresh starts and entirely new roads
-
Waning Moon: If your goal is to remove a specific block or barrier, work here to banish what hinders you
📖 Psalms and Scripture for Road Opening
Psalms are powerful spells in themselves and are commonly used in conjure and Hoodoo.
✧ Psalm 25 – For direction, divine guidance, and clarity on life path
“Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths…”
✧ Psalm 40 – For lifting delays and spiritual mud
“I waited patiently for the Lord, and He inclined to me and heard my cry…”
✧ Psalm 24:7 – Used with the 5th Pentacle of Mercury
“Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lift up ye everlasting doors…”
✧ Isaiah 43:19 – To call forth new opportunities
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
For maximum power, read these aloud three times before or during your ritual.
🕯️ Working with Candles for Road Opening:
Dressing, Setup, and Ritual Flow
When preparing a candle spell for Road Opening, every detail—from the type of candle you use to the order you light them—has symbolic and magical meaning.
Below is a full guide for working with figure candles and support candles, including traditional and alternative options.
🔍 CASE STUDY: ALISSA’S REUNION CANDLE SPELL
Client Intent:
Alissa wants to meet her boyfriend Zhou in Japan on August 11. She wishes to remove all travel and family-related obstacles, and improve the weather to make the experience smoother and more welcomed by her family.
For Alissa’s goal of removing obstacles to meet her boyfriend in Japan on August 11, while subtly influencing circumstances like weather and family mood, a focused Hoodoo figure candle spell is a great choice. Since this involves travel, timing, and family influence, the spell should be a road opening and attraction hybrid, with a spiritual nudge toward luck, favorability, and alignment.
💠 SPELL INSTRUCTION AND CANDLE WORK
Figure Candle Setup:
- Female Figure Candle (Yellow or White) to represent Alissa
- Optional Male Figure Candle (Pink or White) to represent Zhou
- Road Opener Candle (Orange or White) – If you have a Jar Candle, that is best (personally, I love these candles, because I leave the light continuously working its magic until completion. With other types of candles, I will stuff them out and come back to them later because it can be a fire hazard.)
- White or Gold Candle for divine timing and blessing (this can be seen to the left side of the working sitting in a little black holder. You’ll also notice on the other side, my chalice holding water for the spirit “quench the thirst of the spirit for doing the heavy work”.
- Four Blue Candles for elemental balance (placed East, South, West, North)
Dressing the Candles:
- Clean candles with Florida Water or smoke
- Carve names and intentions into the wax
- Dress with oil from top to bottom to draw energy in, bottom to top to remove blocks
- Roll in appropriate herbs
- Optional: sprinkle magnetic sand for speed
Petition Paper Preparation:
- Use brown paper or parchment
- Write a clear present-tense petition (e.g., “I, Lyu, meet Zhou on August 11…”)
Petition Sample (Placed under figure candle)
I, Lyu Pei Zhen, am blessed and supported in all ways. I meet Zhou Jia Hui in Japan on August 11. All delays dissolve, all roads open, all weather calms. My family sees Japan with joy and peace. This union is guided and protected. So it is.
- Fold toward you three times, turning clockwise
- Dab with Road Opener Oil and place under the female figure candle (if your paper is not sturdy enough, or the candle wobbles, just fold out the paper, like I have and sit the white candle on top of it)

Elemental Candle Placement and Invocation:
- Place blue candles in the four directions: East (Air), South (Fire), West (Water), North (Earth). NOTE – if you want to take this a step further, I’m going to write down an invocation and addressing of each of these candles that you could do, but it’s not 100% necessary. It’s just for those of you who want to take it another step and practice your witchcraft.)
- As each candle is lit, speak an invocation to call in the elemental energy:
- East (Air): “I call upon the element of Air, bring clarity, open minds, and fresh perspective. Bless this path with understanding.”
- South (Fire): “I call upon the element of Fire, ignite my will, burn away obstacles, and light the way forward.”
- West (Water): “I call upon the element of Water, bring peace, flow, and emotional favor to this journey.”
- North (Earth): “I call upon the element of Earth, ground this work, anchor my goals, and support this reunion.”
- Each element should be honored aloud with deliberate intention. Pause for a moment after each invocation to feel the energy rise.
Lighting Sequence:
- Road Opener Candle
- Blue Elemental Candles (one by one, with invocation)
- White or Gold Guidance Candle
- Male Figure Candle (if used)
- Female Figure Candle
While lighting each candle (other than the blue candles), speak aloud:
“By flame and wind, by sea and sky, I clear the way for love to fly.
No storm may come, no hand may block,
I meet my love, time shall unlock.
What is meant shall rise with grace.
Our paths aligned, in time and place.”
Let the candles burn safely, and without interfering, as you will be reading the candle after the flames finish.
IMPORTANT – if you started a road opener jar candle or use an orange type, a candle, like I’m using in the picture, you can leave this burning or, after you finish this ritual, snuff out the orange candle. Then come back to it daily, say the same petition while you like the candle and let it burn for a little longer before you suffered out again. You could do this continuously until in this case, the date where they are to meet up being August 11.

OPTIONAL: ELEMENTAL FORMATION USING BLUE CANDLES
In Alissa’s spell, we’re also influencing the weather and family emotional climate, so the element of Air and Water becomes key. We will place blue candles in the four corners of the ritual space to form a balanced elemental circle.
🌬 Air (East):
-
Place a blue candle dressed in Blessing Oil or Tranquility Oil.
-
Speaks to mental clarity and helps calm the thoughts and judgments of others (e.g., Alissa’s family).
🔥 Fire (South):
-
A blue candle here tempers emotional volatility and blocks family tension from flaring.
-
You may inscribe “Open Hearts and Harmonious Action.”
🌊 Water (West):
-
Calms emotional energy, removes sadness or hesitation from the emotional body.
-
Focus on phrases like “Peaceful Travel,” “Loving Reunion,” or “Weather Be Still.”
🌍 Earth (North):
-
Grounds the spell’s energy. This blue candle reinforces long-term stability and removes fear-based delays.
-
Burn with dried basil or bay leaf for favor.
Each elemental blue candle should be invoked separately, welcoming the powers of that direction to bless the ritual.
🔮 Candle Observations: Alyssa’s Case Study
🕯 Male Figure Candle (Zhou)
-
Burned the fastest: This shows that his energy is active and responsive to the working. In road opening rituals, a fast burn can signal eagerness or urgency in the target—here, it implies Zhou is energetically pulling toward Alyssa, eager for the meeting to manifest.
-
Wax river flowing forward from the torso area: The heart or solar plexus level suggests that the drive to move forward is emotional or will-based. It could mean his desire to see her is emotionally strong and centered on reconnection or purpose.
-
Wax hits petition and moves toward Alyssa’s candle: This is powerful. The fact that his wax connected to the petition (Alyssa’s written intention) and then flowed in her direction indicates that his energetic pathway is aligning with hers. It suggests the road is beginning to clear between them, and he may be subconsciously moving toward reunion.
Interpretation: Zhou’s spirit or higher self is aligning with the spell. He is open and engaged with the outcome. Spiritually, this shows he wants the reunion, and any remaining blockages are more likely environmental or circumstantial, not emotional.
🕯 Female Figure Candle (Alyssa)
In Alissa’s case, the figure candle burned down slowly and steadily, leaving behind a tight, compact pool of wax near the base with no outward spread. This formation indicates that her petition—to remove all obstacles preventing her from traveling to Japan to meet her boyfriend Zhou Jia Hui on August 11—is spiritually focused and internally grounded. However, the lack of outward wax flow suggests that while her intention is strong, there may be lingering restrictions or blocked movement in the external world.
The tight pooling of wax reveals that Alissa is emotionally and spiritually committed to the outcome, but additional force may be required to create the necessary shifts in her environment. Energetically, the wax signals potential limitations, such as logistical issues, family dynamics, or travel constraints that are keeping the manifestation from expanding outward.
This type of burn often benefits from supplemental work that increases momentum. Road Opening rituals or Travel Blessing spells are ideal here, especially those that call upon planetary influences like Mercury for movement and communication or Venus to support romantic alignment. Incorporating wide-spreading candles, open-cross formations, or elemental directional candles can also help open the path symbolically and practically.
There is no indication of interference or opposition, which is a positive sign. The work is aligned, but needs to be empowered with additional force to create visible and timely movement. Continued spiritual work leading up to the intended date can still successfully clear the path and support the desired meeting.
🕯 Four Blue Elemental Candles (Air, Fire, Water, Earth)
-
All burned evenly: This is confirmation that the elemental energies were in perfect harmony during the ritual. There was no resistance from environmental, emotional, mental, or physical forces. When these candles burn evenly, it’s a green light from spirit that the ritual space is protected, balanced, and supportive.
Interpretation: Alyssa’s environment and the magical conditions were aligned. The elements worked in her favor, and any unseen energetic blocks around her seem to have been cleared or neutralized during the ritual.
🌿 Final Reading: Alyssa’s Ritual Outcome
The working indicates strong spiritual alignment and potential for success, but the outcome appears to be more delicately balanced than originally interpreted. Zhou’s figure candle burned quickly with a flowing stream of wax directly toward Alyssa’s candle, suggesting responsive energy and a clear pull toward union. The directional movement of the wax confirms that the path between them was activated during the ritual.
However, Alyssa’s figure candle produced a tight, unmoving pool of wax—symbolizing emotional centeredness, but also revealing that the energy on her end is more contained. This may indicate that while her intention is strong, she may be unconsciously guarded, or that environmental and emotional constraints are holding the manifestation close rather than allowing it to expand freely.
The four elemental candles burned evenly, which supports the stability of the ritual and suggests that all directions are spiritually open. Despite the static wax pool, the overall reading remains favorable, especially if Alyssa continues to take real-world steps toward her goal.
✨ Recommendation
-
Alyssa is encouraged to follow up with a Road Opener candle or Travel Blessing working to further clear any last-minute resistance or limitations.
-
A booster candle can still be lit on August 10, but it may be wise to use a candle formation that encourages outward movement, such as placing four red candles at the corners of a crossroad pattern.
🧼 Spell Completion
-
Dispose of remains respectfully, ideally at a crossroads, to symbolically let the energy flow outward.
-
Journaling any synchronicities, dreams, or intuitive nudges is still encouraged leading up to August 11.
-
A spiritual bath using lemon, basil, and a pinch of salt is recommended to help energetically refresh and expand her aura.
This ritual opened the road, but the tight wax formation shows that the momentum needs a final push. With continued focus and empowered follow-up, Alyssa remains on track to manifest her desired meeting.
ADDITIONAL ROAD OPENING SPELLS
5-Day Road Opener Ritual
Purpose:
This five-day ritual is designed to unlock the spiritual doors that block your path and to invite new opportunities, guidance, and favor into your life. Each day aligns with the path of the sun to awaken directional energy, symbolic gateways, and timing in your favor.
Tools You Will Need
-
1 wearable key (choose a key you can keep on a cord or chain as a talisman — make it personal, something you want to wear)
-
Road Opening Oil (to anoint candles and petition)
-
Road Opening Powder (to form the sacred crossroad space)
-
4 red taper candles (one for each direction and corresponding sun position)
-
Red string or thread (to bind your petition to the key)
-
1 small piece of paper and pen (for the written petition)
Spiritual Preparation
Before you begin, spiritually cleanse your space and yourself. A simple floor wash using lemongrass or a Florida Water bath is ideal. Light incense or play music that aligns with your intention of personal movement and opening. Set your key and candles on a natural surface such as wood or stone — avoid metal or glass if possible, as you want grounded energy.
Step-by-Step: Setting the Ritual Space
-
Write Your Petition:
Use plain or brown paper. Write a clear prayer asking for the removal of all obstacles and for roads to open to love, success, health, or a specific goal. Be sincere and present-tense in your language. -
Fold the Petition:
Fold the paper toward yourself three times, turning clockwise between each fold. This pulls the energy toward your path. -
Lay the Powder:
On your altar or a cleared surface, form a cross shape using Road Opening Powder. This symbolizes the crossroads — a place of power and decision-making. -
Build the Spell Layout:
Place your folded petition in the center of the powder cross. Put your key on top of the petition — it becomes the activator, the object that will carry your opened paths going forward. -
Anoint and Place Candles:
Dress each red candle with Road Opening Oil from the base upward (to draw power in). Place the candles at the ends of each arm of the cross: East (right), South (below), West (left), North (above).
Daily Ritual Instructions
Each day corresponds to a different directional gate and solar position. The goal is to unlock the energies of East, South, West, and North in alignment with the rising, zenith, setting, and absence of the sun.
DAY 1 — Morning (East, Right of the Key)
Action: Light the candle to the right of the key.
Time: As early as possible after sunrise.
Say aloud:
“As the Sun did rise, the doors to my right are now unlocked.”
Hold the key in your right hand.
Focus: Beginning, mental clarity, new communication, initiation.
Let the candle burn all the way down.
DAY 2 — Noon (South, Below the Key)
Action: Light the candle below the key.
Time: At the solar noon or the moment the sun is highest in the sky.
Read: Psalm 40
Say aloud:
“As the Sun sits high, the doors behind me are now unlocked.”
Hold the key in your right hand.
Focus: Vitality, strength, movement, pushing past fear.
Let the candle burn completely.
DAY 3 — Afternoon (West, Left of the Key)
Action: Light the candle to the left of the key.
Time: Just before sunset.
Read: Psalm 24:7
Say aloud:
“As the Sun is setting, the doors to my left are now unlocked.”
Hold the key in your right hand.
Focus: Release, completion, clearing emotional blocks, making peace.
Let the candle burn to the end.
DAY 4 — Night (North, Above the Key)
Action: Light the candle above the key.
Time: After the sun has set, ideally after dusk.
Read: Isaiah 43:19
Say aloud:
“This night, the doors before me are now unlocked.”
Hold the key in your right hand.
Focus: Hidden blessings, protection, insight in darkness, dreams.
Let the candle burn out fully.
DAY 5 — Binding the Key
Action: Take your petition and bind it to your key using the red string.
Say aloud:
“This key now carries the power of my opened roads. I walk freely and in alignment.”
Final Step: Bury or dispose of candle remains and leftover powder at a crossroads to finalize the spell. Leave without looking back.\n\nWear the key daily as a talisman of opened doors and divine favor.
Why This Spell Works
This ritual works because it aligns spiritual timing (sun and direction), sacred symbolism (keys and crossroads), and consistent intention over five days. The repetition builds momentum, while the red candles activate the root chakra and fire energy. Keys have long represented opportunity, authority, and access. When charged with oil, prayer, and daily handling, the key becomes a personal magnet for opportunity.
Suggestions for Enhancement
-
Add a glass of water near the key to receive messages or signs in dreams.
-
Keep a dream journal during the five days — spirit may show you images of doors, gates, or paths.
-
If desired, call upon a specific deity or spirit aligned with Mercury, roads, or movement (such as Legba, Hermes, or Ganesh) to bless your work.
Working with Saint Peter or Papa Elegba (Legba) to Open the Roads
Papa Elegba is the KEY orisha to open the roads. Saint Peter is also the Saint to open the roads. So who will you work with? Let me explain why Saints are used in the place of lwa and orisha.
Slaves were forbidden to practice their own religions but were permitted Roman Catholic chromolithographs of saints. They scoured them, looking for coded references to the orisha and lwa. Sometimes these identifications really work: Ogun, spirit of iron, was syncretized with the archangel Michael because in his most famous image Michael wields a sword. Yet they genuinely have much in common: both are tireless workers and warriors on behalf of human safety. Michael even has his own associations with iron. Sometimes syncretism is surreal: Chango, that most virile spirit of fire and lightning, is syncretized to the virgin martyr Saint Barbara, because her chromolithograph depicts a lightning bolt.
The first generation to engage in syncretization is conscious of what they’re doing. After that, though, all bets are off. At what point, if any, do these spirits genuinely fuse? Perhaps Saint Peter, syncretized to road-opener Elegba because of his keys, really is Elegba or vice-versa. And if you’re invoking Saint Peter in a magic spell, are you really invoking the saint or Elegba, hiding within, even if, after three generations, the orisha is no longer remembered?
I will leave it to you to decide if you will open the roads with Saint Peter or Papa Elegba.
The spells/rituals below are working with Saint Peter. The first suggestion involves collecting dirt from the crossroads, and creating an entry point in your home for opportunity. The second is a little more elaborate, and so make sure you read through both of these rituals and decide if you have the tools and equipment to complete what is required. The last ritual is quite elaborate and may take you some time to prepare. Still if opening the roads is what you need to do right now to allow money the journey into your life, then you need to begin your money work with opening the roads!
Next, we move over to looking at a ritual with Papa Legba.
Once again, you have a choice, but the energy or frequency you are using is really the same.
Saint Peter Road Opening Rituals
#1 – ROAD OPENER – Saint Peter
Saint Peter holds the keys to heaven; he is the keeper of all the gates, doors and roads. You can call upon him for all types of work but I think he is best known for his road opening work. A lot of folks are afraid of St. Peter and won’t work with him. They say he is a dangerous dark Saint.
He is a saint that will do either light or dark work depending on the work being done. He can close your roads just as easy as he can open them.
- His symbol is two small gold keys crossed over each other held together with red thread.
- You can burn a red, blue, orange or you can burn a road opening candle when calling on Saint Peter to come to your aid.
- As an offering, you can give Saint Peter either Whiskey or red wine
- To petition Saint Peter tap on the floor three times while you call his name. You call his name on each tap.
- Say:

“St. Peter open the roads,
open the roads so _________can come in.
Open the roads Saint Peter
Open the roads.”
This is a very old school concept where you grab dirt from various places, place it in a bowl and magnetise it so it provides a future opportunity. The reality years it’s very hard to go and collect dirt without drawing attention to yourself. Also, and most probably, there isn’t any dirt to collect at your local crossroads! Most of us are living in residential areas or in the city, so you’ll have to get creative.
Currently, I live in New Orleans in the warehouse district. There aren’t any dirt intersections anywhere. What I have done is take a dustpan and pretend that I am sweeping up something from the corner of the road. You don’t need a lot, and even if it is the debride versus the dirt, the concept is that you are drawing the energy from all of the quarters – to open up these four exit points and create new opportunities.
- Collect the dirt from the four corners of the crossroad nearest your house
- Place a large magnet and the dirt it in a bowl (I have used a lodestone before)
- Then get the dirt from your front door, add this to the bowl
- Cover the dirt and magnet with change out of your wallet
- Then cover all of it with Sugar
- Take a candle and dress it
- Then petition Saint Peter to open your roads
- Place the candle in the bowl and light it
- Pour some red wine into the bowl as an offering
- Place your bowl behind your front door and go daily to pray and petition Saint Peter.
#2 – ROAD OPENER – Saint Peter
By Miss Melinda
No one likes to struggle for money but I believe that sometimes these trials are really what we say they are: “trials!” They are a test to see how strong we are.
Regardless of the ups and downs in life sometimes everyone needs a little break including me. This work with Saint Peter will do just that. It will ease up financial troubles and change your luck around so your needs will always be met. The hardest lesson to learn in drawing prosperity is to always be grateful for your blessings. When you learn to show gratitude for what you do have instead of focusing on what you don’t have God will always bless you with more.
For this work you will need:
- Two skeleton keys Green ribbon Red string
- $5 bill
- Two strong magnets Blue Flag Root
- A few grains of rice
- Hair from the crown of your head A pinch of Solomon’s Seal Root Sassafras Root
- An orange candle, A white cloth,A glass of Sugar water with a penny face up inside the water.
NOTE – The Sugar water and orange candle are offerings to Saint Peter. You need the white cloth because you will make a basic altar setup by the front door where luck comes and goes.
Begin:
- You need to set up a small altar behind your front door but before you do you need to clean you area
- Inside a large bowl of water make a wash of
-
- 1 teaspoon Ammonia
- A bit of Sugar
- Salt
- Holy Water
- A pinch of Cayenne Pepper
- Wipe your space down with this mixture while saying Psalm 23 and a petition to Saint Peter to open your roads
- Let the altar and space area dry
- Drape your altar cloth over your space and burn a little Frankincense and Myrrh
Now your space is ready.
- Take a pair of skeleton keys and cross them together with both sides facing UP in the SAME
- Wrap green ribbon around the crossed keys TOWARDS you while asking Saint Peter to draw money and prosperity to you and all your loved ones.
- Keep wrapping the green ribbon around the crossed keys until they are secure then tie five knots.
- State your petition for money drawing as you secure each knot.
- Place your crossed keys under running water for a few seconds.
NOTE – The running water will rid the keys of any negativity that may have attached itself.
- Hold the keys to your mouth close to your breath
- Say Psalms 23 with a petition for your roads to always be open and prosperous
- Call on Saint Peter and ask him to fill his keys with power
- Tell him that you have prepared his keys so he can open your doors for prosperity and total success
Student Tip: “I also like to say David’s Victory Song (Psalm 20) over the keys because this psalm is powerful. It affirms total success and victory. I’m not a big fan of Psalms but I have to include it because it really does bring success.”
- Dress your crossed keys with holy oil
- Pass them through the smoke of Frankincense & Myrrh
Your keys are ready to work. Now you need to do a cleansing.
For the cleansing part of this work you will wipe yourself down from the crown of your head to the soles of your feet with the orange candle while asking Saint Peter to change your luck for the better and give your life the turn around so you can be a total success.
- Start from the crown of your head and wipe yourself downward with a orange candle wiping downward to your toes
- Make sure you clean the back of your neck
Remember you are moving from HEAD to TOE. You may feel a pull from the candle. That candle is pulling blocks on you into the wax which will burn when you light it to Saint Peter.
You can clean yourself as many times that you feel necessary but at least wipe yourself three times from HEAD to TOE. Three is the number of the Trinity.
Now you’re going to make a small money packet to draw prosperity in the house. In this work we’ll use a $5 bill since five is Saint Peter’s number. It represents the four corners of the crossroads with you in the center.
- Write your full name and your birthday just below the face of the $5 bill with a red pen. Red is hot and brings fast luck.
- Then write “TOTAL SUCCESS” over your name and cover it with the success symbol ($$¢ ¢$$).
- Turn the $5 bill face down.
- Put some hair from the crown of your head in the center with:
- Blue Flag Root Solomon’s Seal Root Sassafras
- Some grains of rice
- Fold the bill TOWARDS you covering the ingredients in half
- Turn the bill CLOCKWISE and fold it towards you again
FYI – Repeat this step until you can’t fold the $5 bill anymore. By now you got a packet. Make sure you fold it tight so the ingredients won’t get loose.
- Dress only one of the magnets with a drop of Holy oil
- Then place your money packet between the magnets
You’re feeding only one magnet with holy oil because that magnet will draw money to you. The other magnet that isn’t dressed will pull blocks from your money. Each time it removes a block the magnet will be fed just like a cleansing candle.
- Now get the Red Cotton String and wrap it around your money packet
- Always remember to wrap the string towards you turn the packet clockwise
- Then wrap towards you again until your packet is secure. You wrap the string just like the way you fold the bill towards you when preparing a packet
- Tie five knots in your packet
Do not cut the string. Make sure you have extra string left to secure your packet to the crossed keys.
- Wrap your money packet around the crossed keys
- Using the leftover red string and secure the packet.
Now your money packet is directly tied into success work with Saint Peter. As long as those keys always point up Saint Peter will keep your roads open since all your doors are open.
- Place the orange candle on the altar
- Set your crossed keys on the altar pointing UP against the candle
The keys should be leaning on the candle. Remember to make those keys face UP to keep your roads open otherwise you can cross yourself up. We don’t want that to happen!
- Place your Sugar water containing FACE UP penny on the altar to the right of the orange candle
- Set a bell next to the orange candle on the left
This setup is a straight line with the candle/crossed keys in the middle, the bell to the left, and the Sugar water to the right.
- Knock three times on the altar
- Ring the bell three times
- Light the orange cleansing candle
- Call Saint Peter to you
- Tell him the Sugar water, crossed keys holding your packet, and bell is an offering to him so he will open your roads
- Ask Peter to remove all obstacles to your success and bring you victory
Let the candle burn down. Once a week cleanse yourself with an orange candle and offer a glass of Sugar water. Include a penny in the glass FACE UP. Dispose the old water with penny at a crossroads. This is your payment to Saint Peter for blessing you with prosperity.
This work is very simple to keep up and only needs to be repeated once a week if you want to keep the luck coming.
This work seems like a lot at first because there are so many steps but it’s really easy once you get the hang of it.
#3 – ROAD OPENER – Saint Peter
“St Peter is the door opener, he holds the keys to heaven. He can open or shut the door. I was always taught to petition God and St Peter first before doing any spiritual work. You petition God first because the work belongs to him. Saint Peter removes obstacles. His symbol is a pair of crossed keys.”
In this work you will do a cleansing with skeleton keys and reverse any blocks you are facing.
- First put two skeleton keys under running water
- Then make the keys into a cross with both keys pointing up
- Wrap your red string around the skeleton keys AWAY from you
- While petitioning Saint Peter to remove all blocks from you
- Hold the crossed keys to your mouth and call the spirit of Peter into those keys
- Tell the saint the keys you have prepared are his offering to use in cleansing you and removing whatever blocks stand in the way of your prosperity
You will know St Peter is there because you’ll feel his spirit.
- Dress the crossed keys with holy oil
- Pass them over Frankincense and Myrrh
- When you pass the keys over the incense make the sign of the cross from top to bottom then right to left. That’s North, South, East, and West. The cross opens your roads
You need to do a spiritual cleansing on yourself with Saint Peter’s keys and a black/white Reversal candle. If you don’t have a Reversal candle, then use a black or a white candle.
TIP:
What’s important is that when you cleanse yourself with the crossed keys remember they must point UP. NEVER CLEANSE YOURSELF WITH A PAIR OF CROSSED KEYS POINTING DOWN OR YOU WILL CROSS YOUR ASS UP! When you draw something or want to open roads with St Peter you must always work his keys while they’re pointing up towards the sky.
EXTRA Tip: To do the opposite work or what some folks call “work with the left hand” you want with Saint Peter’s keys pointing downward.
- So take the keys pointing UP and starting at the crown of your head make the sign of the cross over your head.
- Then proceed downward from your head all the way to your feet making the sign of the cross over your body as you cleanse yourself.
When you make the sign of the cross in Conjure you always do it top to bottom, right to left which is North, South, East, and West. Don’t do it like the Catholics from top to bottom and left to right. You don’t want to cross yourself up.
- While you are making those crosses over yourself with the keys pointing UP petition Saint Peter to open your roads and destroy all your enemies known and unknown. Ask God and Peter to turn all your obstacles into opportunities and destroy anybody standing in the way of your blessings.
You’ll repeat the same step with your black/white Reversal candle.
- Starting at the crown of your head cleanse yourself with the Reversal candle by making crosses from top to bottom and right to left
- Cleanse yourself as you make those crosses from your head to your toe
Don’t forget to cleanse those feet.
- Lay out a square of Red Flannel
- Place your Reversal candle in the middle of the flannel square.
- Stand the crossed keys on the Reversal candle pointing up
- Hold your hands over your work and ask God to trap all your enemies and destroy any work that has been placed on you
- Light the Reversal candle and say a prayer to St. Peter
For the next four days state your petition over your work for a total of five days.
- On the fifth day tear out Deuteronomy 33 V 27-29
- Write ALL MY ENEMIES KNOWN & UNKNOWN on the Bible verse and wrap it around the crossed keys pointing down
Deuteronomy 33:27-29
27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.
28 Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.
29 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy Excellency! And thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.
For the final part of the work you will make a Conjure packet so that your roads will always remain open. This works two ways: (1) it will keep your roads open and (2) it will cross up anybody trying to jinx your blessings.
- Place the crossed keys in the middle of the red square flannel pointing down
- Add:
- Five Finger Grass
- Sulfur
- Devil’s Bit Root
- Four shiny pennies preferably the ones with the shields to the packet
Use whatever change you have but the new pennies with the shields are best for this work because they symbolize protection.
- Fold the square flannel AWAY from you until you can’t fold it anymore
- Then wrap red string around the packet away from you in the shape of a cross
Just keep turning the packet and folding your string going away from you until the packet is tied down.
- Make five knots in your string
- State your petition as you tie each knot
- Feed your packet a little Whiskey and holy oil
- Go to a crossroads where a STOP sign is located and bury your packet in front of the sign
- Ask Saint Peter to bring all your enemies to a speedy halt and lock them down so they can’t bring you anymore trouble
The reason you want to go where two roads cross at the stop sign is that you are bringing all your troubles to a complete HALT.
Your work is finished. Normally you’d pay at the crossroads with a few coins but you already made your payment to Spirit when you included change in the Conjure packet. When the spirits pick up their change at the crossroads they will take the work with them too.
Papa Legba Ritual for Removing Financial Blockages and Gaining Influence
Image 1
Who is Papa Legba?
Papa Legba is one of the most powerful and approachable Lwa in the Haitian Vodou pantheon. He is the guardian of the spiritual crossroads, the opener of gates between the human and the spirit world. Without Legba, no other Lwa can be reached. He is a messenger, a road opener, and a wise old man who speaks all languages. He is associated with communication, opportunity, and the smooth flow of energy between realms.
In times of hardship, especially when one faces financial blocks, delayed payments, or uncooperative people, Papa Legba can be called upon to clear the road. He does not force like a warrior but opens the way so that what is yours flows to you. His influence also extends into influencing others to grant favors and uncovering truth.
When to Perform This Ritual
-
Best Days: Monday (associated with crossroads), or Wednesday (communication and Mercury day)
-
Best Moon Phases: Waxing Moon for attracting money or favors, Full Moon for maximum power
-
Time: Early morning or at a symbolic crossroads in your day
What You Will Need
-
Peanuts (roasted and unsalted, a traditional offering)
-
Roasted corn kernels or cornflakes (represents nourishment and abundance)
-
Cayenne pepper (to “heat up” and activate the spell)
-
A plain white sheet of paper
-
Red pen (used ink symbolizes personal essence)
-
Red ribbon or string
-
Seven stickpins (each representing one of Legba’s aspects)
-
One red seven-day candle
-
A small glass of white rum (add a few drops of hot sauce — spice excites the spirits)
-
Optional: Bell, cigar, or image/statue of Papa Legba
How to Prepare the Ritual
-
Create Your Sacred Space:
Set up a small altar for Papa Legba in a quiet place. Decorate with red cloth, keys, walking sticks, or photos/statues of Legba. Cleanse the area with Florida water or incense if available. -
Light the Candle:
Light the red seven-day candle and call upon Papa Legba with sincerity. You can say:“Papa Legba, master of the crossroads, guardian of the gates, I call to you with respect and offerings. Open the way for me, remove what blocks me, and carry my words to those who need to hear them.”
-
Present the Offerings:
Sprinkle cayenne pepper over the peanuts and roasted corn, then place them in a bowl on the altar. Pour the rum into a small glass and add a few drops of hot sauce.Offer these to Legba, and as the scent rises, visualize him arriving, smiling with his cane, and accepting your offerings. Speak your problem aloud to him clearly and confidently. Be honest. Be specific.
Creating the Magical Petition
-
Draw Legba’s Veve:
On the sheet of white paper, draw Papa Legba’s veve with the red pen. Focus on each line as though it glows with red-hot energy. This symbol becomes the gateway. -
Write the Names:
At the top of the paper, write your full name. At the bottom, write the full name of the person you are seeking to influence or who owes you money. -
Fold the Paper:
Fold the paper in half toward you — always drawing the energy to you. Make sure your name is on top when folded.
Pinning the Petition with Legba’s Aspects
Each pin represents a face or quality of Papa Legba. Insert each pin into the upper right corner one at a time and recite the corresponding invocation:
-
First Pin:
“I order this in the name of Atibon Legba, that he may look upon me with kindness.”
-
Second Pin:
“I order this in the name of Gran Chemin, the great road, that this quest may reach its end.”
-
Third Pin:
“I order this in the name of Legba Avadra, the wanderer, that he may find what should be mine.”
-
Fourth Pin:
“I order this in the name of Vye Vye Legba, the Old Man, that he may take pity upon his grandchild and grant me what should be mine.”
-
Fifth Pin:
“I ask this in the name of Legba Kay, Legba of the House, that we may harvest what we have sown.”
-
Sixth Pin:
“I order this in the name of Legba Do Miwo, Legba behind the mirror, that he may bring to light what is hidden from me.”
-
Seventh Pin:
“I ask this in the name of Legba Met Carrefour, Legba Master of the Crossroads, that he may lead [insert name] on the path I desire.”
Binding and Activating the Spell
-
Wrap the Petition:
Bind the pinned paper using red ribbon. As you tie the ribbon, imagine Papa Legba sealing the petition with his energy. The charm is now alive with spirit and intent. -
Optional Fire Activation:
To ignite urgency and action, sprinkle a pinch of cayenne pepper on the outside of the bound charm while saying:“With fire and heat, I command your feet — you shall grant what is mine, swiftly and sweet.”
-
Storage:
Place the charm in a small red pouch, a wooden box, or on Legba’s altar. Each day until results appear, speak to the charm and add a tiny pinch of cayenne as an offering.
Ongoing Offerings and Devotion
Maintain the relationship with Papa Legba by offering:
-
Cinnamon candy or cinnamon sticks
-
Sweet rum or white rum with honey
-
Singing, dancing, or heartfelt prayers
Speak to him as a grandfather — wise, funny, but deeply powerful. Always offer thanks.
Final Words of Power
For this working to be successful, faith and intent must be unshakable. In Vodou and all magic, the will and imagination are the real agents of change.
The roads you walk are not just physical — they are spiritual corridors filled with opportunity, challenge, and guidance. With Papa Legba opening the gate, nothing that is meant for you can be blocked.

(or substitute with essential oils like lemongrass or ginger if needed) -
A small piece of brown paper or parchment

-
Green: Assists with money flow, employment, or financial resources
-
Gold: Attracts success, favor, and long-term blessings
Note: If you’re using a taper candle, orange is traditional for fast movement.
✍️ How to Perform the Ritual
-
Prepare Your Petition
On a small square of paper, write your full name at least three times. Turn the paper 90 degrees and write “OPEN THE ROADS” across your name to create a cross pattern. You may add a short, clear sentence like:“May all paths now open for opportunity, prosperity, and right action.”
-
Dress the Candle
Add a few drops of Road Opener Oil to the top of the candle. If your jar candle allows, rub the oil in a clockwise direction around the rim. As you do this, speak your intent aloud. Be clear. Be bold. Spirit responds to conviction. -
Mark the Jar (Optional)
If your candle comes in a glass container, you may use a marker or paint to write “OPEN THE ROADS” directly on the jar’s surface. -
Light the Candle
As you light it, focus for a moment on the flame. Let it represent the unlocking of doors and the burning away of resistance. -
Recite an Invocation or Psalm
Choose one of the following options and repeat it three times:-
Psalm 25: for spiritual guidance and divine favor
-
Psalm 24:7: for doors to open
-
Isaiah 43:19: for new paths to emerge
Or simply say:
“By fire and spirit, by oil and flame, I open all roads before me. Let what is mine now come.”
-
-
Conclude with Gratitude
Speak thanks to your spirits, ancestors, or divine forces. Leave the candle burning in a safe place.
🔁 Daily Reinforcement (Optional)
Even if you only have a few moments the next day, return to the candle and repeat your intent. Touch the jar. Whisper your desires. Let the energy stay active.
🪄 Optional: Multi-Candle Situation Ritual
If you’re dealing with more complex blockages, consider combining your Road Opener candle with the following:
Example: Opening Roads for Money Flow
-
Purple Uncrossing Candle – Removes blockages or crossed conditions (internal or external)
-
Black and Red Reversible Candle – Sends negativity back and clears psychic interference
-
Road Opener Jar Candle (orange or green) – Opens the path for new projects, income, or blessings
Set the three candles together in a triangle or line formation. Burn them all at the same time or sequentially depending on your ritual style. Keep your petition in the center or beneath the Road Opener candle.
🧠 Why This Ritual Works
This quick-working ritual taps into:
-
Color magic (via the candle’s hue)
-
Herbal correspondences (in the oil or powder)
-
Sacred language (via Psalms or personal prayers)
-
Flame activation (fire as the element of movement and change)
Though simple in appearance, it’s packed with symbolic resonance and spiritual intention. For those who live busy lives or are new to candle magic, this is an accessible but powerful tool.
✨ Final Tips
-
Never blow out a road opener candle. If you must extinguish it, snuff it gently.
-
If the flame burns high and steady, your roads are clearing fast.
-
If the wax pools heavily or the flame struggles, consider repeating the ritual for deeper clearing.
