10 Rules to Follow When Using the Ouija Board

The Ouija board, which is also referred to as a Spirit Board, is a board with letters, numbers and the yes/no words. The ouija board is not a common method of divination to use for conjure or hoodoo, but maybe a great choice should you wish to talk with the dead! The Ouija board is a very powerful tool that should be handled with great precaution. In this article, I would like to share some important rules that should be followed while using this board.

The Ouija board has a pointer that is used to slide to the letters which are used to form words and sentences. The board can be used to connect with spirits. You may wish to burn some incense in the room where you’re going to have your ouija board session so that it can attract and entice spirits.

Before Your Begin Your Ouija Board Session

  1. When preparing your space also be mindful of the guests that will be in attendance. Make sure you have invited like-minded people who will take this seriously. Leave out the others, as they will just bring in negative energy. Low-energy people will not bring the energy needed for the board to move.
  2. It’s best to start your ouija session at night, and to work by candle light. Candles can help to channel the energy in the room, and even help spirits manifest by using the energy in the candles. Incense is good to, and you could even see the spirits in the smoke of the incense.
  3. You may want to give people roles, for example:
    • Whether you or the medium is leading the séance, only one person should serve as the main channel or communicator.
    • who will be taking notes of the answers from spirit (spelling out words from letters can be difficult if you are freaked out, and/or in a darkish room. This person will not touch the board
    • Record the session on video so you can see what you may have missed after the session
  4. Have a list of prepared questions to start with, and then ask deeper questions as relevant.

10 Rules when using the Ouija Board

Rule # 1: Never ask when you’re going to die

Yes! You heard that right. The reason why you shouldn’t ask when you would die is that some spirits can lie about this date. Especially if the spirit or demon is unable to see the future. Besides, what if you were actually told the exact date when you would die, you might not be happy to hear it.

Other questions you should never ask the Ouija board include; never ask about God, and never ask where the gold is buried.

Rule # 2: Never play Ouija in a cemetery

When playing in a cemetery, there may be hundreds of souls interested in communicating with the players. While some of them might be harmless spirits, others might be angry spirits that might give you a wonderful experience.

Rule # 3: Never leave without saying goodbye

Sometimes, while playing this game, you might get tired or get to a point where you feel scared to continue. In such a situation, don’t make the mistake of leaving the game without saying goodbye. If you do so, the unclosed portal allows the spirit to move around without restriction. And if he is a bad spirit, he could go about causing destruction.

Always end the game by dismissing the spirit and if the spirit says he doesn’t want to leave, you must insist firmly.

Rule # 4: Never play Ouija in your home

Your home is one location where you should never play an Ouija. This is because the energy of the malevolent spirits contacted during the game might become resident in the home. For this game, choose an ideal dark location free from background noise. You can light up a candle to see what the planchette may be spelling.

Rule # 5: Have a protection kit

Although most Ouija sessions end up in fun, you never know when the game could get ugly. For this reason, you would need a protection kit to guard you during the sessions. You can use any protection charm and always be on alert. As soon as you perceive danger, quickly end the use of the Ouija board.

Rule # 6: Never play Ouija alone

When there are more people using this board, there would be more energy to connect with the spirit. Besides, it is more fun when played in groups. Never play the game alone because sometimes an evil spirit might try to possess the player.

Rule # 7: Be Respectful of the Dead

Do not be disrespectful to the spirits. Do not challenge them too. These spirits have taken time to connect with you so treat them with respect otherwise there could be disastrous consequences.

Rule # 8: Don’t leave the planchette on the board.

When you are done using the Ouija board, always remove the planchette from the board. It is considered bad luck to leave the planchette on the board so even if you are leaving the room for a bit, ensure that you remove the planchette first.

Rule # 9: There should be a leader

While playing in a group, one person should be assigned as a leader. This individual should be the one to talk and ask questions. The leader must avoid any joking behavior. Other members should focus on the planchette and remain silent. Unnecessary questions, comments, noise making and laughter should be avoided as such would interfere with the game process.

Rule # 10: Never burn an Ouija board

Burning this board can cause more damage so it is better to leave it untouched and locked up in a closet. Whenever you are experiencing problems with the Ouija board, you should store the planchette and board separately. The common recommendation for disposing of an Ouija board is to break it into seven pieces, then pour holy water on it before burying it.

How to Use a Ouija Board

  1. Start off with a request for protection. You may also want to smudge the area. Some people like to call to spirit guides and guardian angels to be present.
  2. Optional – ALL hold hands and state the purpose of the evening. You may wish to introduce yourself to the spirit world (you could take turns)
  3. If with friends who are into witchcraft, you could call to quarters, or to each element; or chant; or say a mantra of some kind to raise the energy.
  4. Everyone should place at least two fingers on the planchette, and move the planchette around the board manually a few times to get a feel of moving around the board. Don’t fake push after this time.
  5. Ask them/the spirits to join you, in a respectful manner just as if you were inviting a guest into your home—because essentially you are. The typical first question is, “Are there any spirits her with us now?”
  6. Keep your questions brief, clear and relevant. No asking about winning lottery numbers or other frivolous things. Always be polite and respectful.
  7. If you do not get a response:
    1. Know that it takes time when you start out for many reasons, including the vibe of the group, and the points below
    2. Allow up to 5 to 10 minutes between answers and responses .You can keep on asking the same questions.
    3. Talk SLOWER
    4. Ask easier questions
    5. Swap the roles – have someone else ask the questions
    6. Don’t use slang terms (many ghosts and spirits are OLD – from a different time)
    7. Your house or room may not have spirits present.
    8. You may need to find another location that is more active. You could use a Ghost Detection Gadget such as a K2 meter to get a reading on if a ghost is actually present before you start the ouija session. If you have the budget, get a ghost detection kit to both detect and hear potential spirits.
  8. Optional – Before you stop your séance, everybody in your group should hold hands together and say ” Now is done, we thank you now leave in peace” three times before letting each other’s hands go.

Just know the spirits may not leave just because you asked them to leave.
